Welcome to the Iowa Music Teachers Association! Iowa Music Teachers Association Active Membership offers a mentoring program for young teachers and those who are new to the Association. Members are also afforded the opportunity to register for the Iowa Music Teachers State Conference at the reduced members rate.

IMTA’s proprietary repertoire list offers an extensive list of over 14,000 piano solo pieces at six different performance levels to assist with programming for your students.

  • 2020-2021 IMTA events will be held as the current health situation permits.  Please watch the calendar and this news page for changes or cancellations.


  • 2020-2021 IMTA Conference in June 2021 has been canceled due to COVID 19.  We hope to see you next year! 


  • IMTA Board meeting, Friday Feb. 19th at 9:00 a.m.  Technology Chair Jason Sifford will facilitate the meeting via zoom.  Board members are asked to submit reports and agenda items to President Linda Benson, by February 12th.
  • Congratulations to all teachers and students who participated in IMTA Festivals and Auditions this year.  District results will appear in the Iowa Music Teacher Magazine Spring issue.  State results and photos will appear in the Summer Issue.  If you wish to obtain a copy of the magazine, please contact for more information. Please act early as there are limited printed copies.
  • IMTA AUDITIONS: As our final district competitions conclude on Feb.13, 2021, all winners will receive information concerning video submission for the IMTA State Piano competition to be judged the second weekend in March from Deb Ausborn, IMTA State Auditions Chair.  
  • 2021 IMTA Spring Magazine articles due by Monday, March 1, 2021: Please submit to 
  • Submit all events concerning your local association to: so your meeting information appears accurately on the events calendar.


  • IMTA/MTNA Dues deadline is July 1 for all renewing members.  A grace period is offered between the time statements are issued at the end of April until September 1.   *Student members must be paid by October 1, 2019.  All other members are in good standing provided they have paid before September 1.  New MTNA/IMTA members may pay at any time the first year and are offered a half-price membership after January 1.
  • IMTA/MTNA dues must be paid by September 1, 2020, for anyone who hasn’t already renewed.  New members and collegiate members must be paid by October 1.
  • *Any student member wishing to enter their students in IMTA competitive or non-competitive events must pay full IMTA and MTNA membership, due July 1, no later than September 1. (Effective immediately as of April 6, 2019 Board meeting.)  Please contact or for more information.
