Iowa Music Teacher Association

Welcome to the Iowa Music Teachers Association! Iowa Music Teachers Association Active Membership offers a mentoring program for young teachers and those who are new to the Association. Members are also afforded the opportunity to register for the Iowa Music Teachers State Conference at the reduced members rate.

IMTA STATE AUDITIONS will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2020 at Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa.

MTNA NATIONAL CONFERENCE will be in Chicago March 21-25, 2020. Details below.

The membership deadline date for all renewing members is now past due.  In order to have access to the login area of the website or the ability to enter students in IMTA auditions, you must become a non-member.  A non-member must ensure that the IMTA Treasurer receives payment at least 30 days in advance of the IMTA Auditions registration deadline in their district.  Non-members have only limited access to the website and will not receive publications. You may still pay your membership dues after September 1 if you only wish to attend conferences, receive publications or enter in IMTA festivals.  

Student members have until September 30th.  If you wish to enter students in IMTA events of any kind, you must pay as a full member.


The 2019-20 Repertoire list is online.  You may now begin entering student information for festivals or auditions. Should you see corrections, please send to imtarepertoire@gmail.com


MTNA/IMTA Competitions October 18-19. 2019.  Registration is now closed.  Please contact chair, Diane Smith.
Please note:
  • STATE COMPETITIONS ARE A LIVE ROUND. Your state’s competition date can be found here.
  • DIVISION COMPETITIONS ARE AN ONLINE-VIDEO ROUND. Videos for the Division round are not submitted until after the state competitions. Instructions will be sent to state winners and representatives.
  • NATIONAL FINALS ARE A LIVE ROUND, March 21–25 in Chicago, Illinois.
  • MTNA active membership dues for the 2019–2020 year must be paid prior to completing the application to avoid being assessed

IMTA/MTNA & LOCAL DUES

IMTA/MTNA Dues deadline is July 1 for all renewing members.  A grace period is offered between the time statements are issued at the end of April until September 1.   *Student members must be paid by October 1, 2019.  All other members are in good standing provided they have paid before September 1.  New MTNA/IMTA members may pay at any time the first year and are offered a half price membership after January 1.

*Any student member wishing to enter their students in IMTA competitive or non-competitive events must pay full IMTA and MTNA membership, due July 1, no later than September 1. (Effective immediately as of April 6 Board meeting.)


Sharon Jensen, State Local Associations Chair is always accepting “From the Heart” submissions for our magazine.  Send to Sharon or imtamagazine@gmail.com. You may submit your name or ask to remain anonymous.
